Historic Barn-to-Spa Retreat

Through careful renovation and adaptive reuse, this project transformed an historic service barn into a refined, multi-functional family wellness retreat. The building was overhauled to include new shed dormers, structural reinforcement, all new windows and doors, replacement of all wall and roof cladding, high-performance exterior insulation and the integration of modern mechanical systems. Elegant finishes and custom millwork balance contemporary comfort with traditional craftsmanship.

Original architectural elements were retained and restored where possible, allowing the barn’s heritage character to inform the design while complementing contemporary interventions that accommodate modern living. The reimagined space now features a private gym, spa, lounge, basement workshop, office and integrated guest parking, all while preserving the barn’s original heritage character. JMC achieved top national honors for this renovation project.
